According to Kotaku, Best Buy (the major US Electrical store chain) will launch a new PS3 bundle shortly. The bundle consists of an 80GB PS3 console with two games – Metal Gear Solid 4 and Killzone 2, for around $400.
So what, I hear you ask. Well, when Sony et al start to offer bundles like this, it is to run down stocks of the current console, which in turn can indicate that a new console is imminent.
Not too long ago, Best Buy had the PS3 bundled with Wall-E and Little Big Planet, also for $400. However, this new bundle looks more aggressive and certainly of more interest to hardcore gamers.
So, perhaps the PS3 Slim is due for a pre-Christmas launch. To get it right for this critical time, and tap into the huge christmas gift market, Sony would aim to release the Slim around 1st October 2009. This would therefore give them 10-12 weeks to clear current stocks.
Good news part one is that you can expect to pick up some great offers on the current 80GB console in the next few weeks and good news part two is that you might not have long to wait for the PS3 Slim.
