PS3 Slim News

Rumours of a slim PS3 console have been around for almost as long as the PS3 itslef, well almost. However, it looks like that the news we’ve all been expecting will be announced by Playstation very soon.

When asked recently, Playstation supremo Hohn Koller said;

“I’d love to live in a world with fewer leaks and more meat.”

Sorry John but we’re all excited at the news so come on, put us out of our misery!

Arstechnica report that a leaked note from a Japanese retailer shows that there will be no more 80GB consoles available from Sony after 9th August 2009. No big deal I hear you cry. However, when you consider that the 160GB console isn’t sold in Japan, it then starts to add credibility to the PS3 Slim being launched very soon. Why? Well, with no 80 GB consoles, what would they sell?!

Prices appear to be holding up at present, but having said that, it’s not peak console buying season is it? In the US the Sony PS3 80GB console is being sold at $399.99 on Amazon with the 160GB console available at a $50 discount at $499.99 bundled with Drake’s Fortune Pack.

Digitimes is reporting that orders for components used to create the PS3 console hardware are way up, almost as if the company is beginning a whole new batch of consoles. ;)

During a recent finance update, Sony bosses revealed that the cost to manufacture the PS3 console is way down. While he declined to comment on specific numbers initially, he finally admitted the cost has dropped around 70 percent. That would give Sony the opportunity to lower prices or alternatively, to take some profit at a time when cash is in short supply.

So what does this mean to you, the consumer? Basically, if you are looking to buy a PS3 console, wait a few weeks .. it’s coming, honest!
