Has anybody had problems with connecting controllers after installing the new updates on the ps3 slim?

and since i am new to the whole ps3 experience- do you have to install the updates or is it optional? if so why?

I’m looking to buy PS3 for GT5 but it’s confusing me. The slim does or doesn’t have wireless capability? For instance net gear, is it backwards compatible with PS2?

What is the thickness of the 2.5″ hard disk? The Western Digital Scorpio Blue 250GB is 1/8th Height,
but the 1TB is 1/6th Height. It would appear that the 500GB is 0.9cm (=9mm), which is 1/8H or 1/6H ?

I am tempted by the 1TB, but only if it’s compatible, size AND disk formatting wise. For the PS3 Slim, not the Fat.

I’ve got one coming tomorrow, a little disappointed with the inability to play PS2 games, but then my newer PS3 original (dropped it down the stairs, I cried) didn’t either, so no loss there. Looking forward to seeing how it looks in my rack, the space saving is very handy

About Wi-Fi connection speeds. You forgot that we can transfer files from a computer to the console, and for streaming video it’s a must to have the 11n protocol. We can’t just think about web navigation, it’s more than that.

I have Xbox360 and am thinking of bining it and getting a ps3 as there are so many things wrong with the xbox360, like having to pay for the online gaming. On the other hand the ps3 seems to be something that once I have it, Sony will put a newer faster better one on the shelf. All I ask is they make it ps2 backwards compatable.

250 watts is not 2.5 units of electricity. Electricity is charged in kWh. 250 watts is 0.25kwh. A kWh is charged at around 11-13p meaning that it costs around 3p an hour to run a PS3.

While this is considerably more than the wii, the ps3 is consiserably more powerful with more features etc. And remember that figure is the maximum figure and doesn’t necessarily mean that is the wattage is always uses

This PS3 games console certainly looks nice and I’m sure it plays great games, but it uses 250 watts of power – that is 2.5 units of electric an hour, so in my case 32 pence per hour to run excluding the monitor.

I’d rather watch films on an ordinary sony blu-ray player that runs on a modest 22 watts and play games on a wii that runs on 17 watts. How can anyone realistically afford to pay the electric bill after using a wasteful machine like this? Not to mention the effect on the environment.

I have an xbox 360 most new games come out 4 the xbox first i would like a ps3 to play some games that r not on the 360 but want to know if its wifi or not. As 4 keith its up to u both have 120gb hard drive on line i would say 360 better had my 360 from day one and love it dont think theres much init on graphics best bet go to a games shop watch them both on there tv’s hope thes helps david

I got one, but only because my original 60GB model kicked the bucket, ironically, just after the slim came out. I was using my original for my 30+ PS2 games,too. I hope Sony gets done with that software PS2 ability soon.

As per specs above, looks like slim “only” has IEEE 802.11 b/g and no wireless N. That is practically the only reason holding me off of buying the console. Pity. I’ll have to hold off for now…..

Wifi chip isn’t 11n capable, and there’s not much point as internet speeds in uk can’t get that kinda speed so it’s pointless even with virgin’s fibre. It’ll be many many years before 11n speeds are available for residential home users broadband connections.
